The History of Poker- how did it begin?
Have you ever wondered where the Poker game really came from? Was it invented before other popular casino games such as: Blackjack or Backgammon? When did the online Poker land?
Well, the history of Poker is a matter of debate. Some may say it came from Germany in the 15th Century, by the name of “Pochspiel”, which in fact reminded a lot poker in any form, especially because you could bet and bluff. Other may say it was originated from France by the name of “Poque”.
Anyway, the Poker game closely resembled to another variant game variant, coming from Persia by the name of As Nas. Though there is no specific description of Nas prior to 1890.
Nonetheless, in the 1937 edition of Foster’s complete Hoyle.R.F Foster wrote that the game of poker, as first played in the USA, dealing five cards to each player from a twenty-card pack, was undoubtedly the Persian game of As Nas.
By 1990 some gaming historians started to challenge the notion which poker is a direct derivative of As Nas. But soon, the game of Poker conquered the internet and players mainly professional began gambling in an online casino.
